I’m Andrew Orr, Master Grower at Avant Brands. I started in the legacy market and when cannabis legalized, I jumped at the opportunity, bounced around between a few LPs and learned a lot along the way and I'm just enjoying the experience that I've been having.
Which phase of the cultivation journey do you enjoy most?
Andrew: My favorite part of growing would be working with a team, doing the teamwork and just watching the flower change its stages to flower. That's one of the most exciting things is seeing different cultivars finish and seeing the different attributes that they bring.
Which phase of the cultivation journey do you least enjoy?
Andrew: Maybe the cleaning. There's always cleaning. I call ourselves glorified janitors, so there is a lot of cleaning when it comes to cannabis.
How has your Passion for the plant evolved over the last few years?
Andrew: I wouldn't say it's evolved too, too much. I've always had a passion for the plants, but it's been a lot of a different experience in legalization and a lot more loopholes to jump through, but it's been a great experience and I just love doing what I do.
What core values do you uphold?
Andrew: Core values for me would definitely be teamwork. Everything gets done as a team.
Not one person does anything that is more important than the other person. Another big thing, communication, respect, giving everyone that's on the team respect. And those are the main things that I look at when I do cannabis and of course having fun.
From nurturing the soil, conditioning the plant, to team collaboration, how important is consistency in shaping success?
Andrew: It's one of the most important things and one of the hardest things to do. You can have a lot of things go wrong in cannabis, but trying to overcome those problems and have a consistent good product is a very hard thing to accomplish. But if you can do it, it's very rewarding work. But if you can do it, it's very rewarding work.
